The Art of Bamboo Weaving with Local Experts

Learn the ancient Lao bamboo weaving techniques from one of our local masters! Lao bamboo weaving dates back centuries, as bamboo is the prime material available that is suitable for basketry. We’ll start the day by picking you up from the NamKhan Project office in the Luang Prabang city centre. If you prefer we pick you up from your hotel, please notify us at least 24 hours in advance or when you book the experience. From there, it’s a short drive to the NamKhan Project(opens in a new tab), our 1-hectare property facing the NamKhan River.

Upon arrival, we will serve you a homemade welcome drink and take a short walk through the grounds before introducing you to your instructor. Either Ms. Souk or Ms. Tong, our local basket weavers that live on site at the NamKhan Project, will lead this 2-hour workshop. They’ll show you the basics of bamboo basket weaving and help you make your own tea filter during the class. You’ll also have a chance to sample organic teas fresh from our farm.

After the class is finished, you can spend time at our facilities before heading back to the city centre. Try your hand at slacklining on our outdoor playground or swim in our relaxing waterfall pool. We offer several different shuttles for getting back to the city centre.
